10 Tips For Success in 2018 – Millenia Edition

I know you might be swamped with “last day before 2018” emails, newsletters, etc.

I wasn’t into the whole new year resolution, but then I asked myself

Why not?

The new year is a clean slate!

Washed away are the old dramas and struggles of the past year. You get to put one foot into this year with the goal of forming more successful habits.

Do you want to be braver?

A better version of you?

Make more money?

 

You never know what could happen to you this year!
You could get a new job, start your own business.

The Important Things

It’s important to stress if you aren’t doing what you love then you are wasting your time.

Read this Steve Jobs quote:
 
“For the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: ‘If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?’ And if the answer has been ‘No’ for far too many days in a row, I know I need to change something…almost everything – all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure – these things fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose.”
 
This quote has stuck with me for a couple of years now.

About two weeks ago I quit my corporate job. I’ve been unhappy in corporate for the past two years.

It was ahead of plan, but it was one of the most liberating things I’d ever done.

Because I’m not going back to corporate. My point is, don’t be afraid to take what’s yours in life.

In 2018 be brave Milllenia girl 😉

Without further adieu here are ten things to keep in mind for the new year; Millenia Girl Edition

 

1. Wake Up Strong Everyday

It’s very simple. Almost alarmingly so. Don’t let it fool you! If you fail to establish a routine it will show.

In your work, in your life, in your mind.

I know from experience.

It’s hard to think your best, recall information if you just woke up one hour ago…

 

Time To Rise

 

Set a routine. If you want to wake up at 5:30 every day then set the intention.

To help you achieve the earlier time, you could always set the alarm 15 minutes earlier each day or each week.

Also, you could use a gentler sounding alarm clock. For this, I use Smart Alarm Clock app.

Notice how you feel when you wake up at your set time.

“You” time in the morning is so valuable.

 

2. Early to Bed Early to Rise Makes Millennia Healthy, Wealthy and Wise

So many of us ignore this sage advice. Yes I get that it’s fun to stay up late and stuff.

But look at it this way, what gasoline is to a car is what sleep is to the body. It’s fuel.

You absolutely cannot realize your dreams and goals and achieve them, Millenia, if you’re sleep deficient.

ZZzzz…

I’m just going to say it. I need about 10-12 hours of sleep a night.

I know that’s a lot but hear me out. I wake up feeling refreshed and happy.

Try this challenge: For one week, go to bed 1-2 hours earlier than you usually would.

If one week sounds hard, what about three days?

  • Check in with yourself. See how you feel.
  • More energy?
  • Happier?
  • Clearer head?
  • More productive?
  • Check all the boxes.

3. Develop Your Own Food Plan That Works for You

Food. Yes. It’s pretty important. It’s part of the big 3.

Structure (waking up early),

Sleep and

Food

It takes time to get things right.

You should know if you’re having a hard time staying on top of grocery shopping and working and everything else you have to do. Things get easier with time. Soon it’ll be second nature.

But in the meantime you could go either of these routes:

  • Make a meal plan on Sunday. This requires some discipline, but you are sure to reap the rewards.
  •    Subscribe to a meal delivery service. There’s Blue Apron, Plated, Hello Fresh. I haven’t tried any of them. They might be worthwhile.
  •    Know what you like to eat and make it a point to stay stocked up on it. This means if your dish per usual is pasta with a salad. Make sure you purchase greens and a couple of boxes of pasta at the store on Sunday.

Also don’t be afraid to stock up on snacks. It’s something I need to do more often.

4.Simplicity Is Wealth

Simplify your home, your desk, your emails. Keep it simple. You’re not stupid you are smart Millenia 🙂

6.Where Are You Spirituality?

Important question. Spirituality makes the tough days a bit easier. You will never regret exploring your spirituality. It’s what colors life and gives it meaning.

To me, being spiritual makes you more self-aware.

Aware of others too.

You know your strengths, your faults, whether it be too much pride or anger.

You thank God for every day.

You may even pray.

7. Read. It Does Make You Smarter.

Ask more questions. Don’t be afraid. Its likely no one else understands the concept either.

Back to reading: the brain is malleable.

Just look up neuroplasticity.

When you “exercise” it by reading more, doing brain puzzles you are rewarded by being smarter!

There’s confidence in that.

8. Be Kind to Fellow Women.

Even if you feel jealous..work it out girl, lend a hand!

Easy to say, HARD to do. Am I right, Millenia?

 

Next time you see a woman doing a great job and that pesky green-eyed monster spills over into your consciousness…

9.Be A Little Rebellious

 

So often we get stuck doing the same old routine. Day after day!

Take some risks.. as long as they’re safe and harm noone.

Keywords being. As long as it’s safe!

But the point is: don’t be afraid to take risks. Shake it up a bit.

10.Find yourself. Its what life is about. Be happy. Be unique. Don’t be a carbon copy of everyone else. Don’t be a sheep. Be a leader even if it hurts cause if it hurts its working.

Be YOU!!!!

Never forget life is about finding yourself, being kind, loving your family.

On one of my last days working in the insurance industry. I spoke to a woman in the bathroom.

She had just lost her son.

I was having a frazzled day. The words spilled out of my mouth:

“I’m having one of those days.”

She looked at me with a knowing glance. She had just lost her son. I suspect she knows what is really important in life. Learned only by the pain of losing something so dear to you.

“Hey,” she said

“It’s just insurance.”

and with a wink, she left.

The job is just a job. Remember the bigger picture. You’re living this life. It’s yours, and it doesn’t last forever. Don’t be too scared to do YOU or be YOU.
