Professional Women’s Clothing: The 5 Best Stores To Shop

Isn’t it hard to find professional women’s clothing? The mall is full of stores, and we have the internet at our finger tips… yet business clothes for women seem to be elusive…

Well, no need to worry! I’ve rounded up the 5 BEST stores for women’s business attire.

But first, you should know you are an important part of your company’s success. Dressing like a professional show your managers that you care about your job and you’re responsible. You took enough time to look presentable in the morning. Empowered lady, you are on the path to success.

Here are 5 of the best stores for professional women’s clothing:

1. White House Black Market

WHBM is my GO-TO store for professional women’s clothing. Their clothes are eye-catching, and you can look well dressed without putting in a ton of effort.

They are moderately priced. Think 80-99 dollars for a beautiful top that will make you feel empowered. Their sizes range from petite to size 16. So every lady can look and feel like the VP they are. They have billowy floral tops, sexy turtlenecks, beautiful sweaters, cool moto jackets and an assortment of pants in different colors.

Whenever I pop in, I see professional business women of all ages shopping there. One customer even brought in her stylist! So cool!

Speaking of stylists, the associates that work there recommend different outfits for you and are very attentive when you’re trying on clothes. (Read: If you need a different size shirt they will get it for you!)

I love this store. If you’re in the market for professional women’s clothing, I think your search ends here 😉

But keep on reading for four more recommendations….

2. Macy’s

I recently just got into Macy’s. They offer affordable clothing that had saved me when I needed a professional look but couldn’t afford to shell out 99 dollars for a top.

They sell name brand designers like Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Levi, and Tommy Hilfiger for a low price. I even got a pair of army green pants there and Ralph Lauren button down and got them both tailored to fit perfectly. We will talk more about tailoring later!

Sizing ranges from petite to plus size. They have something for everyone.

Also check out Boscov’s too, if you live close to one. There are only 50 stores, and they are all on the east coast.

They may be a little more expensive than Macy’s but not by much.

My mom used to get me sophisticated looking trench coats and one-of-a-kind pieces from Boscov’s. You can check them out online at Boscovs.com.

3. Nordstrom

I visit Nordstrom for certain items.

A time not too long ago I would exclusively shop there (Which I don’t recommend; = bad for your credit card!)

Every once in a while I’ll check to see what goodies they have in stock. With Nordstrom I know I’ll get quality items. I fully believe that if you invest in SOME quality shirts and pants, then you’ll have an easier time getting dressed in the morning but still feeling confident in your outfit.  😉

Plus as you know,  mixing a quality pair of pants (maybe one that you tailored?) with a less expensive blazer creates a knockout look for the office. Clothing shouldn’t break your budget!

Last week I bought a pair of darker taupe shoes at Nordstrom for $49.00. The brand is BP, and they’re polished looking.

I also have a Kate Spade blue button down that I tailored. I bought it last year, but this shirt has at least three more years of wear to it. When you take care of your professional clothes, you won’t have to buy new ones as often.

Classique Entier

Nordstrom has a professional women’s clothing line called Classique Entier. Which describes itself as “sophisticated silhouettes, superior construction, and fine fabrics.”

Last year I had a huge interview for a job….and I was still in my Nordstrom-only phase…

Anyway, I bought an abstract looking black and white Classique top. The fabric bunches on the side for a wrapped look. Very professional for the office, I still wear it.

4. J. Crew

When I think of J.Crew, I immediately think PREPPY.

With this brand you know you’ll get quality, clean pieces. They have great colors because hey, who can wear black 24/7? Sometimes you need a pop of color in your life!

J.Crew is moderately priced just like White House Black Market. You will pay around 70-90 dollars for a shirt and 89-150 dollars for pants.

If you’re in a casual office environment, you can purchase great quality jeans here. I know this because in college I liked buying my jeans from J. Crew.

Or if you’re in a more conservative environment, you can buy slacks in colors like blue, black, gray, maroon or patterned if you’re feeling bold!

They also have sales if you don’t want to pay full price.

One look I love is a blazer with a button down shirt or a t-shirt and jeans. I like how relaxed it looks. With J.Crew you’ll get an effortless yet put together look for the office.

J. Crew sizes range from petite to size 16!

5. Stitch Fix

Newcomer Stich fix is cutting edge!

Blending technology + fashion, it’s an online stylist that ships personally styled clothes to your door.

They call the shipments, “fixes.”  You choose to get your fix every 2 to 3 weeks, every month, every two months or every three months.

Standard and Harvard alum, Katrina Lake created the company. Smart girl!

The Lowdown

First, you’ll log onto Stitch Fix and take the Style Quiz. Within the quiz, you’ll answer questions about your body type (how tall are you?) and how you like your clothing to fit.

Some other questions they’ll ask are… how often do you wear dresses?

Are you more glam? Adventurous with style?  Or classic?

Then Stich Fix will generate some sample outfits, and you’ll rate them with choices like hate it! Or love it!

I took the style quiz, and it seems they genuinely want to get to know you so they can best find clothes that fit your style.

They offer petite sizes and are actively working to add greater selection.

Plus sizes are also available in sizes 14W-24W and 1X-3X.

I haven’t tried Stitch Fix personally, but it’s definitely on my list ☺

Accessories

“Jewelry has the power to be this one little thing that can make you feel unique” – Jenna Kwon

I am sure you’ve heard the saying accessories make the outfit?

Well, they can!

Ever notice another empowered lady wearing a stylish belt and how it just pulls the outfit together? Or a gal is dressed in a lovely pair of earrings that kicks her outfit up a notch.

Accessories don’t have to be expensive, but cute earrings or a cool necklace can make you stand out in a put together way.

Personally, I love a pair of pearls (faux!)  or dangly earrings like Kendra Scott for Nordstrom.

I want to repeat; you don’t need to spend a lot of money on cute clothes and accessories.

Some of my favorite clothes have been the cheapest.

In fact, I recommend you don’t spend too much. But it’s important to represent your office professionally. Clothes play a part in how we’re perceived. So make sure to put your best foot forward every day!

Tailoring

I discovered tailoring in 2016, and I immediately fell in love with it.

I thought, so let me get this straight you take clothes that don’t fit properly and in about a week they are resewn to fit your body and proportions perfectly?

Yes, please!

If anyone is hesitant on the magic of tailoring just Google “tailoring is it worth it?” You’ll be able to see before and after pictures for yourself!

The devil is in the details, and just the slightest alteration in your clothes makes the difference.  Plus when I’m wearing a tailored shirt I feel so confident.

Plus when I’m dressed in a tailored shirt I feel so confident. I’m able to focus on my work and not self-conscious about the way I look.

Now tailoring is on the expensive side. Depending on where you live, it can cost about 70-100 dollars for two articles of clothing. However, in my opinion, you’ll have this clothing for much longer than you normally would and get more wear out of it. You know it’ll always look good because it fits your body.

So empowered ladies, there you have it. The five best places to buy clothes for work!

Do you have a favorite store for professional women’s clothing that I didn’t mention?
